The hunter and gatherer societies are those whose survival is based primarily on livestock and agriculture. They also present a certain way of seeing things, as each society has different traditions and customs.

At present, less than 250,000 people only keep hunting, fishing and gathering wild plants as their only way of subsistance. However, from the origins of human existence until 10,000 years ago, hunting and gathering were the only types of societies that existed. Hunting and gathering societies use simple technology to hunt animals and collect vegetation. The technology in these societies is limited to tools and weapons used for basic subsistence, including swords, bows and arrows, nets, hunting traps and sticks to collect plants. All are tools made of natural materials such as stone, bone and wood. In these societies the basic social unit is the kinship or family group, they live in small groups of 25 to 40 people with no higher hierarchies.
