In the Gettysburg Address, Abraham Lincoln's main purpose was to give American encouraging words to try to tap into their pride in the U.S. nation, which was "conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal", in order to convince Americans that the war was worth continuing.
