Mexico City lies on the same exact place where the capital of the Aztecs was. Unlike the Aztec capital which was a city built in the middle of a lake and it was surrounded by water from all sides, the picture of modern day Mexico City gives a totally different picture. This is due to the drying out of most of the water that was in the plateau before Mexico City is built, and the drying out was with two reasons, the first one to have suitable space for building a big city, and the second one to gain big amount of agricultural land.
