How many children were employed in the united states during the industrial revolution?

Child labor was a common practice throughout much of the Industrial Revolution. Estimates show that over 50% of the workers in some British factories in the early 1800's were under the age of 14. In the United States, there were over 750,000 children under the age of 15 working in 1870.
