Yes the American Civil War was inevitable because of the differences between the North and the South. The tensions about slavery and southern state rights were bound to explode along with calls for secession. The president at the time could not stop the civil war because originally the rest of the united states didn't take the secession seriously, that was until the south attacked a fort and raided it for ammunitions and supplies. At that point the civil war was inevitable.
