How were women treated before they got rights

If it's about women in the US then before they got rights they were stuck at home from young age they would help around the house doing chores such as cooking and cleaning and watching the siblings then as they grew older they would then marry and would become a housewife. Women were not allowed to vote nor the freedom of speech so they were basically under male ruling. After they received there rights they were able to work and have more freedom such as voting and freedom of speech.
