The Articles of Confederation and the
Constitution Slide Presentation
The essential qualities of the American government came about through trial and error in the period from
1781 to 1789 when the country was governed under the Articles of Confederation. That period made
clearer to Americans what kind of government they wanted. The biggest distinction between the Articles of
Confederation and the Constitution was whether the central or state governments should have sovereign
power over various functions.
Create a slide presentation in which you analyze the Constitution by 1) listing where various functions of
government lie. Make sure you 2) list and contrast powers exclusive to the state, 3) powers exclusive to the
nation, and, finally, 4) shared powers.
Also, include the 5) Key issues during the ratification debate which were argued by the Federalists and
Anti-Federalists. Have slides that 6) summarize three aspects of the Federalist and Anti-Federalist debate: their
views, their campaigns, and the result in the Constitution of their specific positions.
