Artistic Movements During the Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution affected all aspects of life, including the
arts. Authors, poets, dramatists, and painters reacted in different
ways to a changing society, urbanization, and the growth of
industry. Some artists turned to nature, while others depicted the
stark reality of life.
Question: Compare and Contrast Choose two movements and
compare and contrast them. Consider how each of the
movements responded to the Industrial Revolution and reacted to
previous movements. Also, consider their styles and subject
matters. Which do you prefer? Why? Give examples from the
paintings in this activity.
