Essay Question: Industrialization raised living standards and made many business
owners wealthy. However, many Americans were still desperately poor. In 1899.
women earned an average of $267 a year, nearly half of men's average pay of
$498. In contrast, Andrew Carnegie made $23 million, with no income tax, in 1900.
Write an argument against the growing wealth and influence of big business. Focus
on unfair business practices, exploitative practices towards workers, government
corruption, and loose laws and regulations.
