Clinton grew up deeply religious and regularly attended a Baptist church as an adult. He once stated, "Religious faith has enabled me to believe in the possibility of daily improvement and in the pursuit of complete integrity in life." Clinton's private marital problems had nothing to do with his ability to govern the United States. Even after news of his affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky broke in early 1998, a Washington Post poll found him to have a 63 percent approval rating.
