Using your study sheets and notes from the previous activities, take a few moments to review some of the major civic rights, duties, and responsibilities of every U. S. citizen.
This section is worth 5 points.
List 10 of the civic rights, duties, and responsibilities that accompany U. S. citizenship. (5 points)
Rights
Live and work in the country, leave and return to it at will, vote in all elections, serve as a public official.
Duties
Serve a jury if selected, and pay taxes.
Responsibilities
Be informed citizens, be informed voters, vote, give back to the community.
You will now analyze the connection between civic rights and certain responsibilities citizens hold. This section is worth 15 points.
Pick a social service or institution (for example, public parks, libraries, or traffic lights) that you use in your daily life. In three to five sentences, analyze the relationship between that service and the civic duty of paying taxes. (3 points)
I am taught almost every day to and how to be better and more educated by my teachers. We pay taxes to pay these teachers. And the country would fall apart into pathetic chaos without them.
According to the Constitution, every U. S. citizen is guaranteed the right to a fair, unbiased trial. Use a real-life or hypothetical example to analyze the connection between participating on a jury and receiving a fair trial. Make sure your answer is three to five sentences long. (3 points)
When a jury must be made, model citizens are selected to decide the fate of another citizen. The jury does not know this person, therefore it is a fair and just trial.
In three to five sentences, explain why it's important for voters to be informed and active in the political process. Use examples in your analysis. (3 points)
Because to be informed and participating in politics is what keeps the country evolving and bettering. Obviously you’d want to be informed on the fact that the country decided to go to hypothetical war with another country.
The U. S. military provides protection to every citizen of the United States, ensuring the nation is safe from foreign attacks and other dangers. Discuss the relationship between the duty of registering with the Selective Service and people's right to be protected by the U. S. government. Make sure your analysis is three to five sentences long and includes examples. (3 points)
You are guaranteed to be protected, and if need be men will be randomly selected to fight and maybe die for their country. So if America decided to go to all out war with some other country and I was 1 year older than I am, I could be selected to fight for my home, my country, and the people I love. And I would.
In three to five sentences, explain the relationship between civic duties and responsibilities and the democratic system of government in the United States. (3 points)
Duties are things you are required to do for the privilege of citizenship. For example, registering with the Selective Service (if you’re a man), and paying taxes. Responsibilities are things you are not required to do but you should. For example giving back the the community, voting, and being informed. The democratic system of government is "For the people, By the people, Of the people". Therefore the citizens will make government for each other, in agreement with each other, and in the end for each other.
