Explain the growth and economic success of the arts in New Mexico during the 1920s-1930s.

In Taos, both the Society of Artists and the Society of Writers, provided New Mexico with nationwide fame for their artistic works. Over time, these artists would also play a significant role in raising awareness of Native American culture and arts. The coming of the railroad and increases in tourism led to the rise of Indian and Hispanic arts, which helped switch many New Mexico communities from a subsistence economy to a cash economy.
