What is a possible explanation for why the ancient Greeks created gods of so many different things? In other words, why was there a god of the sea, earthquakes, and storms (Poseidon) and a god of the dead and the underworld (Hades)?

A possible explanation for the creation of the gods of ancient greece would be an attempt by the greecians to explain the world, much like how the Christians proclaim that god created everything in the world, the greeks proclaim chaos did the same. They could not explain why the sun moved across the sky or why the sea went from calm to the violent, so they rationalized that these forces must be controlled by beings like us, because they had only seen true intelligence from beings like us. So therefore every thing in the world that could not be easily explained became associated with a god or goddess.
