ceremony sought to promote peace. It also recognized ties between the United States and Japan. The two nations
were once enemies. However, they are now allies. The ceremony happened inside the USS Arizona Memorial at
Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The memorial sits atop the sunken battleship. Japanese planes bombed the ship on
December 7, 1941. On December 8, 1941, the United States entered World War II. The two countries have come a
long way since then.
