Graded Assignment Moving Toward Change
(20 Points)

1. Think about the women and girls in the 1960s and 1970’s. What do you think they are telling their granddaughters about the changes they experienced? Then pretend you are a grandparent and write a letter to “your” future grandchild describing with evidence how the roles of women changed during the 1960s and 1970s and explain how those roles have continued to change since then. Your letter should be at least two paragraphs and include information/evidence from the 1960s through the present time. Remember to describe what life was like and what you hope it will be like for your granddaughter.

2. Use the textbook reading and the information from the 4.03 lesson that you discovered on the websites in the online activity as historical evidence to discuss the events of the second wave of the women’s movement in the following areas: education, work, family life, politics, or sports. The important historical evidence and information that you should explain/describe in your letter are primary sources, leaders, organiztions, or legislation, such as: the Feminine Mystic, NOW, Title IX, Roe Vs. Wade, EPA (equal pay act), Equal Rights Amendment; and some of the important historical context you should mention are baby boomers, 50’s housewives, civil rights movement, counterculture, or anti-war protests. It is not important to expound upon the historical context here, but to make sure the reader sees that you understand and expound upon the important changes women went through during the 1960s and 1970s. Consider interviewing an elder family member or family friend who might be able to share a perspective with you.
