Why do you think that space exploration became an arena for cooperation between the soviet union and the united states?

Space exploration gives prestige to the people who are behind it: so advances in space exploration would lead to increased internal and international prestige.

A cooperation is a good option because it can maximize the effects for both countries: together they can achieve more than alone.
