Why do we have a federal rather than a confederate government

In the United States, Federal government is utilized.  If a country practices a Federal Government, the central government and its states or municipalities work hand in hand but are still separate from one another. The Constitution enumerates the powers of the central government and the states. On the other hand in a confederate government, the central government and the states treat each other as allies that agree to work together toward common objectives but still retain their individual powers of governance.  And also under Federalism, the states are all granted level of independence but are still subject to the governance of the federal government. But if the government follows confederation, it would be the opposite wherein the states have the power to override the federal government if they see it fit. 

first industrial revolution - the first wave of the industrial revolution lasted from the late 1700s to the mid-1800s. it industrialized the manufacture of textiles and began the move of production from homes to factories. steam power and the cotton gin played an important role in this period.
