That same summer, Japan tried to negotiate with the USSR on mediation, but to no avail.

The war was declared exactly 3 months after the victory of the Allied countries in Europe, on August 8, 1945, two days after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and on the eve of the atomic strike on Nagasaki.
