The main goal was for Germany to give a surprise attack to the allied forces in the Ardennes region of Wallonia (French-speaking province) in Belgium, France and Luxembourg and then to push into the port city of Antwerp (a Dutch-speaking city in Belgium) .This was near the end of World War II and there were many casualties from the American allies, as well as from Germany.
