When slaves were Emancipated and were given citizenship rights, they were the ones to get political representation in the southern part of the United States. It was white democrats who had political powers across the south and their goal was to restore the supremacy of whites. But by the time of the election of the president in the year 1876, there were only three state legislatures that were controlled by these white democrats.
