The invasion was successful and the Allied forces were able to stablish a beachhead (the zone gained and protected after an invasion by sea) from which the Allied forces were able to push into France (with over one million Allied soldiers), weakening the German efforts, and causing also the weakening of German forces on the Eastern front.
