How does petrarch's climb up mont ventoux reveal the contradictions of the renaissance?

 He obviously achieved a recognition of a contradiction between the promising renaissance culture which as its source supposed ancient times (it was 'rebirth' of ancient times) and christian culture which was to absorb it. It was a difficulty, because Christianity already had its own history and its own notion of man and his place in the world (as subordinated to divine authority). But the world of Christians was corrupted and had to be illuminated by moral authority of the Classical. Thus emerged humanism.
