How did the modern environmental movement grow?

I think the modern environmental growth grew because of climate change. This gave a push to the countries to have immediate answers on their management in decreasing the release of carbon emissions. This was done by the help of research and serious efforts to put this as a priority. Modern solutions made some countries efficient on waste management. In return, the solutions became industries that opened more jobs to people.
