the industrial revolution took place from the 18th to the 19th centuries and was a period of enormous social progress, technology got better and knowledge began to spread. most manufacturing was done in people’s homes using their hand tools or basic machines. industrialization led to factories, special-purpose machinery and mass production. while the industrial revolution had both positive and negative effects on society and the economy, the positive effects outweighed the negative. the industrial revolution raised the standard living for many people (mainly the middle and upper classes) as well as bringing a greater variety and volume of factory produced goods. it moved from human hands making the goods to machinery making every product at a faster pace.

for the upper and middle classes the textile industry gave them more options based on aspects like price, color, and style.
