The basis of this system can be observed in the ages following the Christian subjugation of Muslim states.  Moreover, the development of this system and the engagement of viceroys predict the decreased level of Spanish absorption in the U.S. In this system the natives were required to do hard labor and constrained to severe trial and death if they opposed.
