After the defeat in WWI he returned to Turkey determined to make it a democratic state. He made sure all people including women were provided a free and mandatory education. He made sure that the women were given equal rights and civil rights. He did much to lower the taxes on the poor. Ghandi led India towards nationalism by using non-violent civil disobedience. He worked for equality for women, easing the poverty levels, and making harmony between the different religious groups.
