Why did the kennedy administration create the alliance for progress?

The Alliance for Progress was a program of economic, political and social aid from the United States for Latin America carried out between 1961 and 1970, created as a way to counteract the influence of the Cuban Revolution in the region and support more reformist measures.

Its origin is in the official proposal of President John F. Kennedy, in his speech on March 13, 1961 before a reception for Latin American ambassadors at the White House.

The main measures of the program were: agrarian reform in terms of improving agricultural productivity, free trade among Latin American countries, modernization of communications infrastructure, reform of tax systems, access to housing, improvement of sanitary conditions in order to raise life expectancy, improvement in access to education including the eradication of illiteracy, stable prices within the control of inflation and monetary cooperation.
