The supreme court's decision in brown vs. board of education (1954) declared that "separate but equal" facilities for blacks and whites were unconstitutional. this decision marked the beginning of the end of segregation, or the legal separation of people of different color. some state and local governments were slow to respond to federal orders to integrate, or end the race-based separation of, their hospitals, schools, buses, and other public facilities. select the three (3) actions by different branches of our federal government which were meant to end segregation.

the supreme court decision in loving v. virginia (1967), which ruled that state laws forbidding marriage between people of different races were unconstitutional.

the patient protection and affordable care act of 2010, which requires people to get health insurance or pay a penalty, establishes stricter rules for insurers, and creates a competitive marketplace for private insurance.
