What is a political machine?

The political machine, in the politics of the United States, is a party organization, supervised by an individual boss or small authoritarian assembly, that holds enough votes to keep the political and regulatory authority of a city, province, or nation. Political machines are identified by a hierarchical and disciplined system, moving down to community and neighborhood organizers, that empowers the machine to respond to the obstacles of individual communities, or families, in return for support at the votes.
