Why is the miranda v. arizona case important?

This case is very important, it established the miranda rights ("you have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be held against you in a court of ") basically, it gave those accused the right to be silent, and have the option to not say anything that would self incriminate themselves. hence the term "pleading the 5th". the miranda rights also gave the option to appoint a lawyer to any person convicted if they cannot afford one, to give every person equal opportunity to plead their case to the best of ability.

in the case, miranda self incriminated himself, and confessed to a crime while in custody, but was not aware of his 5th amendment rights. so the case went to the supreme court, and miranda won the case, and stated that because he was not aware of his rights, his confession was invalid.
