The two goals that were inherent in the idea of socialism was that it was an alternative to liberal individualism and that it helped the people. Its main purpose or intent was to establish a shared ownership of resources not like liberal individualism that was focused around the idea of competing against each individual and the unlucky ones would suffer poverty and be victim of social oppression.
