It was the Mississippians who were the mound building Native Americans. These mould buildings also consisted of burial grounds. They constructed large truncated pyramid mounds and platform mounds.   Usually these mounds were square, rectangular, or occasionally circular in shape. These buildings were built using of wooden posts wrapped with mud plaster and also had thatched roofs. These mounds built during Mississippians period was marked as centre of political and social authority .
