Why do we organize the world using latitude and longitude?

We use longitude and latitude to organize the world into a grid. Using this grid structure, we can find our exact location by pinpointing our distance from the Equator and the Prime Meridian. When we do this, it makes navigation more accurate because we can make precise measurements to help us get from one place to another.
