For example, Thomas Pain expalined in Common Sense how there is not other king for America than God. Also, He stated the monarchy as a design with bilical foundation which unfortunately has been corrupted and the King of England was a pure example of it. Thomas Paine basically  used the Christian background , protestant christianism to be specific,  in the 13 colonies as the main focus to support  his idea of independence and how the colonies could organize after that. He knew Christianism in America were evolving into a different belief than the one in England and that would be a lever to promote political independece using God as justification.
