Explanation:

People today and 2,000 years ago revered the famous because they were people to look up too, like role models.

Romans made tributes, like food and crops. We don't do that, we simply look up to them, and give the ones we like support.

From what I know, there is no risk in our culture. When you say back then, I assume you mean the settlers. Well, the risk for the settlers was the Native Americans, and of course the regular dangers of the wild.

Two thousand years ago really the only people who were universally revered were Kings, Queens, Pharaohs, High Priests, and in time the Pope. Now, of course, there were exceptions where someone became respected because of their wisdom or perhaps an accumulation of wealth but generally speaking only people in authority were revered. Most people never traveled outside of their community because the only way to travel was on foot or for the rich, horses. So the only way to become known outside of your village was almost nonexistent. Today’s societies are dependant on the ease of instant communication that allows a vast array of people to become famous, at least for “15 minutes.” As to “why” many people even have a following with the public is not for a mere mortal like myself to understand much less comment upon!

People worship celebrities because of all the glamor and prestige associated with them, and their lifestyle They are unreachable and a fantasy for many people and the Romans believed in many different gods and goddesses. If the gods were angry, terrible things could happen. People worshipped the gods in temples where they made sacrifices of animals and precious things. The Romans believed that blood sacrifices were the best way to communicate with the gods.There are numerous risks and dangers threatening the cultural heritage, such as war and political, ethnic and religious conflict, looting, theft, illegal export and import, illicit trafficking of cultural property, deterioration, neglect, destruction of or alteration to heritage, pollution, and disappearance.
