Where did horses originate from new or old world?

It depends from what you are talking. Normally, when people think about the evolution of horses they think it in two ways: they may talk about the evolution of the horse family (Equidae) or about the evolution of the horse itself (Equus ferus).

The horse (Equus ferus) probably originated in Asia, hundreds of thousands of years ago. After that, they spread to Europe and North America. After they got domesticated by humans, they have spread all across the globe.

The family Equidae first appeared somewhere around 55 million years ago, in the Eocene. The first equids were small, around the size of a red fox, or even smaller, and had four or five fingers, instead of just one, in modern horses. They probably originated somewhere between Europe and North America. The first genus were Eohippus, Orohippus, Pliolophus and Sifrhippus, all of them living in North America, with the exception of the third. By noting that most ancient species were found in North America, it is likely that’s where equids first appeared.So modern horses started in the Americas, spread to Europe and died out in the Americas, then was reintroduced by Spanish soldiers and colonists.

We don't know why the "Mega Fauna Die-off " happened 12,000 years ago in the Americas. They always thought it was overhunting by man but they are starting to think it was a drastic cold spell.
