Module 4: Music of the Caribbean Discussion
Identify and describe the function or social context of the three pieces detailed in the previous page of this module -- “Times Table,” “No, Doctor, No,” and “Punta”. You can find the function or social context of each piece in the listening guides found throughout your textbook (refer to the previous page in this module for specific textbook page numbers), or you may find it elsewhere within the chapter. Please make sure to be as detailed as possible.
You do not need to respond to other students' posts this time, but please feel free to do so if you wish.
Again, the requirement for this assignment is for you to discover and discuss the social context of this music, i. e. what is its purpose within its culture? If you submit a paraphrasing of a listening guide analysis that does not answer this question, you can expect a significant loss of points!
The given listening guide is there to help you, however it is only a starting point. I am not looking for you to copy down the analysis from the listening guide or paraphrase that content in your own words. I am looking to see you exhibit critical thinking in your analysis based off actually listening to the piece of music, and to support those conclusions with clear and specific evidence. Copying or paraphrasing material from your listening guide with little or no original ideas will result in a significant loss of points on this assignment.
A-level work will include the following:
-Correct identification of the function/social context of “Times Table,” “No, Doctor, No,” and “Punta”.
-Use of detailed and specific ideas rather then generalizations.
-Use of specific timestamps from the video to fully illustrate and support your ideas. Timestamps must be used to illustrate a specific and relevant point clearly-timestamps thrown in randomly and without clear, illustrative explanation are not acceptable.
-Use of clear, concise language, and proper spelling/grammar.
