In Gideon vs. Wainright (1963), the Supreme Court was asked to decide if a state court has to supply a lawyer to someone who can not afford one. How did the court rule? * The Court said that the state must provide a lawyer if you are too poor to afford one
The Court said that the state does not need to provide a lawyer no matter if the person is poor or not.
The Court said that the state should pay one-half of the lawyer's cost
