Gone were the days when medieval townspeople's societal rank was determine by birth and ownership of land. In the days of trade, a Townsperson's rank was determined by money and goods. No longer was the royal family the top of the social scale. The kings and queens of trade, merchants and banking families, contributed to the rise of towns, the decline of serfdom, and the beginning of modern society. Write a sentence explaining how the Townspeople's social status was determined during the days of trade.
