Imagine you are a college student in 1961. You and your best friend have been given the opportunity to participate in the freedom rides. Your parents are nervous because they have heard about SNCC volunteers being beaten and even murdered for their work attempting to de-segregate the deep south. Your parents are also unfamiliar with what SNCC is trying to accomplish. Write a letter to your parents convincing them why they should support your decision to join SNCC despite the danger. Be sure to explain: 1) what you think you will be able to accomplish with SNCC 2)what non-violence is and why you believe it will work 3) why it is important to you.
