What was the point of the Declaration of Independence?

The Declaration of Independence, the founding document of the United States, was approved by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, and announced the separation of 13 North American British colonies from Great Britain.

The main purpose of America's Declaration of Independence was to explain to foreign nations why the colonies had chosen to separate themselves from Great Britain. The Revolutionary War had already begun, and several major battles had already taken place. The Declaration also included all of the grievances the colonists had against the British. When other European countries heard of it the people and the nobility were interested in it. Fun fact when Belgium wrote there constitution it was almost exactly the same as the US constitution.
