James Madison, who wrote the Constitution thought we needed a system to keep any one branch from trying to take too much power BECAUSE James believed that people were willing to lie and
cheat to get power. So when he wrote the Constitution he added checks and balances to protect
Americans from their president, VP, Congress, or judges trying to overpower them. Do you
