Why do states have the same number of representatives in the Senate but different numbers in the House of Representatives? This was based on the system adopted by most states in their constitutions after the Declaration of Independence. This was the result of a decision issued by the Supreme Court. This was the result of a compromise between large and small states at the Constitutional Convention. This was copied from the method of representation in the British Parliament.
