Explanation:

According to Southern slave owners, the enslaved people came from undeveloped countries with very low standard of living. They constantly stated to northern government that the living condition that they provided for the slaves  were better compared to their country of origin.

On top of that, many of the southerners also use Biblical scripture to justify slavery.

They often quoted Ephesians 6:5 In order to justify that Christian actually allow slavery.

“Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ."
