They were surrounded by lots of natural barriers  Like the Tibetan Plateau,The Himalayan Mountains,Gobi Desert, and the Pacific Ocean.The effect from these natural barriers were there was less trade because it was hard to get into and get out of china which was a bad thing but it was also a plus because there was fewer wars because the only way to get to china was to go through the natural barriers, that was that hard to do by just yourself but with an entire army yeah not happening.
