George Orwell lived during WWII; however, the Russian Revolution to which Animal Farm connects took place in 1917. During World War II, the Soviet Union, (Now called the Russian Federation), was an ally that helped bring the war to an end. Orwell saw the Soviets as 'wolves in sheep's clothing,' metaphorically speaking.

Your research challenge is to find out why he felt this way about a country that just helped the US and the United Kingdom bring an end to WWII. Why did he view Stalin and the Russians as evil?
