Who was Niccolo Machiavelli and why was he important to the Renaissance?

Niccolo Machiavelli was a Florentine political theorist and also a statesman. He is also considered a controversial figure in political history and has been  exclusive in his influence during the renaissance because of his manual in 1532, the prince.
