Christianity began in the 1st century AD after Jesus died and resurrected, as a small group of Jewish people in Judea, but quickly spread throughout the Roman empire. Despite early persecution of Christians, it later became the state religion. In the Middle Ages it spread into Northern Europe and Russia.

Christianity became a major religion soon after, spreading first to the surrounding lands, than too Greece, and finally to Asia Minor as well as Rome. During the reign of Constantine I, Christianity was legalized and instituted as the major religion of Rome, up until to the fall of the Roman Empire, and continues to influence Europe, even up to today.
