What was the result of the Gaines v. Canada court case in 1938?

The state of Missouri did not have a separate law school for Gaines to attend.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Gaines and held that the separate but equal doctrine required that Missouri either admit him or set up a separate law school for African Americans
