Is this a good immigrant letter during the 1800 and 1900 to a friend?

i was born in russia; i was 17 years old when we had to move because of too much war. we all did our best to keep each other safe and healthy. when we had enough, we decided to move to the united states for a brighter and better future. we all have wanted to move along time ago and now we have a chance. there are more than 9 million people coming as well. we don’t know that much english, but i hope that what we know will be enough. my family fought hard for me so i could keep faith in a new life. we were really poor and needed . my journey to the u. s was extremely long and drastic. all the people that were with us got sick, i felt so bad for them. after 4 or 5 days we arrived at ellis island. we went through allot of processes. we were inspected a long time because they wanted to see if we were strong and healthy enough to continue the journey to our new u. s life .i saw many people that didn’t pass the inspection, oh boy, i hope that we pass because i don’t want to be sent back. i hope you journey goes well!
